Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in West Yorkshire

We cross the Pennines to West Yorkshire on planned route days, working through Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees in one run rather than making a separate trip for every wheel.

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in West Yorkshire

Yes. Signature works across West Yorkshire on scheduled days, covering the LS, BD, HX, HD and WF postcodes on a single mobile route. The county is thirty five miles from our Radcliffe body shop, between forty five and sixty five minutes over the Pennines, so wheels here are booked onto a route day rather than treated as a same day call out.

A county page has to be honest about geography. West Yorkshire is not one place, it is five postcode areas either side of the Pennine watershed, and the drive from Radcliffe varies by twenty minutes depending on whether you are in Halifax or east Leeds. That is why we group the work. Several jobs booked for the same day makes the trip worth making and keeps the cost of getting there off your quote.

The damage has a Pennine character to it. Roads climbing out of Calderdale and Kirklees are gritted hard from October, and grit thrown up at speed chips the lacquer across the wheel face rather than just the rim. Once salt finds those chips it works underneath the finish, and by spring a wheel that looked fine in autumn has a dull grey bloom spreading out from a dozen small breaks.

Further east the pattern flips. Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield generate the usual city damage: parking deck ramps, high kerbs on terraced streets, and cars parked nose in against concrete. Same repair, different cause. Either way the technician works with the wheel still on the vehicle where possible, so nothing has to go off the road for a straightforward kerb scuff.

Which West Yorkshire towns do you reach on a route day?

Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield are the four anchors, and the surrounding Calderdale and Kirklees towns fall between them. In practice we plan a day around whichever corner of the county has the most work booked, then fill it out with jobs on the way there and back. Wakefield and the WF postcodes are covered the same way.

That is also why it pays to ask even if you are not in one of the four main towns. If a van is already crossing to Bradford, adding a wheel in a village on that side of the county costs nothing extra in travel. Tell us where you are when you send photos and we will tell you which route day suits.

  • LS for Leeds and its surrounding districts
  • BD across Bradford and the Aire valley
  • HX for Halifax and the Calderdale towns
  • HD for Huddersfield and Kirklees
  • WF for Wakefield and the south of the county

Should West Yorkshire wheels be repaired at home or at the workshop?

Single kerb scuffs, chips and lacquer touch ups are all mobile work, and they get done on your drive in two to four hours per wheel. The van carries the same paint mixing systems, spray equipment and curing lamps as the body shop, so a repair carried out in Huddersfield is finished to the same standard as one carried out in Radcliffe.

Bigger jobs make more sense at the workshop. Full sets, colour changes, split rims, diamond cut faces and wheels that need stripping to bare metal all have to come off the car. Given the distance, we collect the wheels, do the work at Radcliffe over one to two working days and bring them back, all included in the price rather than charged as mileage.

How does alloy wheel refurbishment work?

The technician starts by cleaning the wheel and the damaged area so the true extent of the scuff, chip or corrosion is visible. What looks like a light scrape often turns out to have lifted lacquer around it, and that has to come off too or the repair will fail.

The tyre is then masked to protect it from sanding dust and overspray. Most repairs are carried out with the wheel still on the vehicle. The damaged area is sanded back to sound metal, and where the profile of the rim has been chipped away, filler is used to rebuild the edge before it is sanded flush and feathered into the surrounding finish.

Once the surface is flat and clean, the technician applies primer, then a colour matched basecoat mixed to the manufacturer paint code, then lacquer. Each coat is cured before the next goes on. Done properly, the repair is invisible: you should not be able to find where the damage was.

Which parts of West Yorkshire do you cover?

West Yorkshire is reached over the Pennines on scheduled days, which lets us cover Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees on one mobile route instead of charging each customer for the journey. Larger jobs are collected and brought back to the Radcliffe workshop.

We work throughout West Yorkshire and the LS, BD, HX, HD postcode areas, typically 45 to 65 minutes from the body shop at Radcliffe, M26 4AD. That includes Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield.

What we cover

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment we carry out in West Yorkshire

Kerb scuff repair

The everyday one. The damaged rim edge is sanded, rebuilt where needed, then colour matched and lacquered so the repair disappears into the original finish.

Diamond cut wheel repair

Diamond cut faces are machined on a CNC lathe rather than painted, which is why they cannot be touched in. We re-cut the face and re-lacquer it to restore the original bright finish.

Split rim wheel repairs

Split rims have a bolted outer edge and often a polished lip with a coloured centre. They must be stripped down, which makes them a longer job than standard alloys. Some wheels look like split rims but are replicas, so send a photo if you are unsure.

Bespoke colour and colour changes

Silver to gloss black, satin finishes, greys, reds and two tone combinations. We match to a sample where we can, and where an exact match is not achievable we agree a finish with you before starting.

Corrosion and lacquer peel

Cars near the coast and cars that have spent winters on salted roads suffer white corrosion under the lacquer. The finish has to come off entirely and the wheel be rebuilt from bare metal.

Cracked wheel welding

Many cracked alloys can be welded and refurbished rather than replaced. We assess each wheel individually and will not weld anything we would not put on our own car.

Answers

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in West Yorkshire: common questions

How often do you come over to West Yorkshire?

We cross the Pennines on scheduled days rather than daily, because the county is thirty five miles and up to sixty five minutes from Radcliffe. How often depends on demand. Send photos and we will tell you the next planned day for your side of the county, then confirm a time slot. Quotes come back inside 24 hours and cost nothing.

Do you charge extra for travelling to West Yorkshire?

The quote you get is the price you pay, fixed before we start. Grouping several West Yorkshire jobs onto one route day is how we keep the travel off your bill, which is also why booking is planned rather than instant. If wheels need the workshop instead, collection and delivery back across the Pennines are free of charge.

Can you refurbish wheels corroded by Pennine road salt?

Yes, and it is one of the more common West Yorkshire jobs. Light corrosion around chips and scuffs can be sanded back and refinished on site. Where white corrosion has spread under the lacquer across the face, the finish has to come off entirely and the wheel rebuilt from bare metal, which is workshop work at Radcliffe with free collection.

Is diamond cut wheel refinishing available in West Yorkshire?

Yes, but not on your driveway. A diamond cut face is machined on a CNC lathe rather than painted, so it cannot be reproduced with a spray gun anywhere. Those wheels are collected, re-cut and re-lacquered at the Radcliffe body shop, then returned. Turnaround is normally one to two working days once the wheels are with us.

What if the weather turns on the day you are booked?

We move it. Paint and lacquer will not cure properly in rain or in very cold conditions, and the higher ground across Calderdale and Kirklees gets both earlier than the valleys do. Rather than hand back a finish that lifts in six months, we reschedule to the next dry route day or take the wheels back to the workshop instead.
