Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in Burnley

East Lancashire roads are hard on wheels, and most of what we refurbish around Burnley, Padiham and Nelson starts as moorland grit thrown up against a rim edge in winter.

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in Burnley

Yes. Burnley falls inside the area Signature covers as standard, taking in BB10, BB11 and BB12 along with Padiham, Nelson and Colne. It is 22 miles and around 40 minutes from the Radcliffe body shop, close enough that most kerb scuffs, chips and lacquer damage are dealt with mobile at your home or workplace.

The roads over and around the East Lancashire moors are gritted heavily and stay wet for months, and the loose stone that comes with that ends up peppering wheel faces and rim edges. Individually the chips look trivial. Collectively they break the lacquer in dozens of places, and every one of those is a route for salt and water to get under the finish.

That is why chip and scuff work makes up so much of the Burnley diary. A wheel brought to us in the first year after the damage is a straightforward repair: sand back, fill where the edge has gone, prime, colour match, lacquer. The same wheel after two Pennine winters often needs stripping to bare metal because the corrosion has run under the surrounding finish.

Burnley is 40 minutes from Radcliffe, mostly motorway once you are on the M65, which makes it an easy area to reach without needing a full route day. Padiham, Nelson and Colne go on the same visit. Anything that needs the wheels off, a colour change or a diamond cut refinish comes back to the body shop, collected and delivered at no cost.

What causes most wheel damage around Burnley?

Stone chipping, mainly. The combination of moorland routes, winter grit and standing water throws a lot of loose material at the lower half of a car, and alloy wheels catch it head on. The face of the wheel picks up small pits and the rim edge takes the deeper strikes.

Kerb damage is the other constant, particularly on the older terraced streets in Burnley and Padiham where parking is tight and the kerbs are high. The two problems often arrive together: a kerbed rim with chipping around it, which is one repair rather than two because the whole area is refinished at once.

  • Stone chips across the wheel face
  • Kerb scuffs on terraced streets in Burnley and Padiham
  • Lacquer peel after winters on gritted roads
  • Pothole strikes on the moor roads towards Colne
  • Corrosion spreading out from old chip damage

Do you work in Nelson and Colne as well as Burnley?

Yes. The run out along the M65 takes in Padiham on the way and continues through Nelson to Colne, so the whole BB10 to BB12 stretch is covered on one visit. There is no travel surcharge for any of it.

Grouping the area this way also means we can handle more than one car in a day. If a neighbour or a colleague has a wheel needing attention, mention it when you book: two cars on the same street is far easier for us to schedule than two separate trips out to East Lancashire.

How does alloy wheel refurbishment work?

The technician starts by cleaning the wheel and the damaged area so the true extent of the scuff, chip or corrosion is visible. What looks like a light scrape often turns out to have lifted lacquer around it, and that has to come off too or the repair will fail.

The tyre is then masked to protect it from sanding dust and overspray. Most repairs are carried out with the wheel still on the vehicle. The damaged area is sanded back to sound metal, and where the profile of the rim has been chipped away, filler is used to rebuild the edge before it is sanded flush and feathered into the surrounding finish.

Once the surface is flat and clean, the technician applies primer, then a colour matched basecoat mixed to the manufacturer paint code, then lacquer. Each coat is cured before the next goes on. Done properly, the repair is invisible: you should not be able to find where the damage was.

Which parts of Burnley do you cover?

Burnley is 22 miles from the Radcliffe body shop, around 40 minutes on the M65, with Padiham, Nelson and Colne taken in on the same run. Moorland grit and winter salt make chip and corrosion work the bulk of what we do here.

We work throughout Burnley and the BB10, BB11, BB12 postcode areas, typically 40 minutes from the body shop at Radcliffe, M26 4AD. That includes Burnley town centre, Padiham, Nelson and Colne.

What we cover

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment we carry out in Burnley

Kerb scuff repair

The everyday one. The damaged rim edge is sanded, rebuilt where needed, then colour matched and lacquered so the repair disappears into the original finish.

Diamond cut wheel repair

Diamond cut faces are machined on a CNC lathe rather than painted, which is why they cannot be touched in. We re-cut the face and re-lacquer it to restore the original bright finish.

Split rim wheel repairs

Split rims have a bolted outer edge and often a polished lip with a coloured centre. They must be stripped down, which makes them a longer job than standard alloys. Some wheels look like split rims but are replicas, so send a photo if you are unsure.

Bespoke colour and colour changes

Silver to gloss black, satin finishes, greys, reds and two tone combinations. We match to a sample where we can, and where an exact match is not achievable we agree a finish with you before starting.

Corrosion and lacquer peel

Cars near the coast and cars that have spent winters on salted roads suffer white corrosion under the lacquer. The finish has to come off entirely and the wheel be rebuilt from bare metal.

Cracked wheel welding

Many cracked alloys can be welded and refurbished rather than replaced. We assess each wheel individually and will not weld anything we would not put on our own car.

Answers

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment in Burnley: common questions

How far in advance should I book a Burnley visit?

A few days is usually plenty. Send photographs, get a fixed price back within 24 hours, and we will offer the next date we are out on the M65 corridor. Short notice sometimes works too, since Burnley is only 40 minutes away, but a planned slot gives the technician the full two to four hours a wheel needs.

Can stone chipped wheels be repaired, or do they need replacing?

Chipped wheels are almost always repairable. The affected area is sanded back until the surface is sound, any missing profile is rebuilt, and the wheel is primed, colour matched and re-lacquered. Replacement only comes into it when corrosion has eaten through the rim, a crack runs through a spoke, or a buckle affects balance, all of which are safety issues rather than cosmetic ones.

Do you cover Padiham and the villages outside Burnley?

Yes. Padiham sits on the way in and is covered on every Burnley run, as are Nelson and Colne further along the valley. Outlying villages in the BB postcodes are included too. If you are unsure, ring 0161 667 0919 with your postcode and we will tell you which day we are next in that direction.

Is winter a bad time to have wheels refurbished in Burnley?

Not for workshop jobs, which are done indoors under controlled conditions all year. Mobile work is weather dependent, because basecoat and lacquer will not cure properly in rain or hard cold, and East Lancashire gets more of both than most places. We would rather move a booking a few days than hand back a finish that lifts in spring.
