How does alloy wheel refurbishment work?
The technician starts by cleaning the wheel and the damaged area so the true extent of the scuff, chip or corrosion is visible. What looks like a light scrape often turns out to have lifted lacquer around it, and that has to come off too or the repair will fail.
The tyre is then masked to protect it from sanding dust and overspray. Most repairs are carried out with the wheel still on the vehicle. The damaged area is sanded back to sound metal, and where the profile of the rim has been chipped away, filler is used to rebuild the edge before it is sanded flush and feathered into the surrounding finish.
Once the surface is flat and clean, the technician applies primer, then a colour matched basecoat mixed to the manufacturer paint code, then lacquer. Each coat is cured before the next goes on. Done properly, the repair is invisible: you should not be able to find where the damage was.

Diamond cut faces are machined on a CNC lathe rather than painted, which is why they cannot be touched in. We re-cut the face and re-lacquer it to restore the original bright finish.
Split rim wheel repairs
Split rims have a bolted outer edge and often a polished lip with a coloured centre. They must be stripped down, which makes them a longer job than standard alloys. Some wheels look like split rims but are replicas, so send a photo if you are unsure.
Bespoke colour and colour changes
Silver to gloss black, satin finishes, greys, reds and two tone combinations. We match to a sample where we can, and where an exact match is not achievable we agree a finish with you before starting.
Corrosion and lacquer peel
Cars near the coast and cars that have spent winters on salted roads suffer white corrosion under the lacquer. The finish has to come off entirely and the wheel be rebuilt from bare metal.
Cracked wheel welding
Many cracked alloys can be welded and refurbished rather than replaced. We assess each wheel individually and will not weld anything we would not put on our own car.
